Head of Projects (Northwest Youth Assembly)
In 2024, I stepped into the role of Head of Projects in the North West Youth Assembly, a pivotal turning point in my youth leadership journey. As Head of Projects, I was entrusted with overseeing all initiatives under the Assembly, guiding project teams from planning to execution, while ensuring that each initiative aligned with our mission to serve the community and empower youth voices.
One of my proudest achievements in this role was spearheading the expansion of YAPaints, a long-standing project that revitalises the homes of low-income families through repainting. Under my leadership, YAPaints evolved to include elements of community art and deeper resident engagement. I also initiated corporate partnerships to strengthen its sustainability, including a successful collaboration with Lih Ming Construction that broadened both our reach and resources.
That same year, I launched Open Voices, a conversation toolkit and card game I personally developed to address the social issue of racial and religious misunderstanding among youth. Inspired by real conversations and lived experiences, I saw the urgent need for a safe space to discuss identity, privilege, and diversity in a respectful and honest way. Since its launch, Open Voices has been used in schools and youth programmes to initiate deeper, critical dialogue.
In recognition of my contributions, I was honoured with the North West Outstanding All-Rounder Student Award, which affirmed my commitment to ground-up community work and youth development.
As I led multiple projects and mentored emerging youth leaders, I deepened my skills in project management, people development, and strategic thinking. I also learned how to balance structure with creativity, building systems that empower others while allowing space for innovation. Being Head of Projects taught me that leadership is not just about driving results, but about creating platforms where others can rise, take ownership, and find purpose in serving.
